Investing time matters
Thanks for your interest in volunteer opportunities. At United Way of Fort Smith Area, we know your time is valuable, so we will do our best to help you find something that matches your interest, time and background. We have found that most volunteers want hand-on involvement with people and wish to be placed at one of our partner agencies in direct service.

If you can make this kind of investment in improving the quality of life right here in your own community, contact the United Way office. Enjoy the impact you make in your community by becoming a part of United Way.

United Way of Fort Smith Volunteers

Board Members
The United Way of Fort Smith Area Board of Directors is the policy-making arm of the organization. It is composed of 21 members who serve three-year terms and are responsible for:

• Formulation of policies
• Overall management of organization
• Hiring of Executive Director
• Approval of annual budget
• Establishment and maintenance of guidelines for admission and continuing membership of agencies.
• Allocation of United Way Funds.

Campaign Cabinet
Campaign cabinet members provide leadership, fundraising and teamwork skills to help campaign coordinators to plan, implement and run successful campaigns. Each cabinet member is assigned to a division; such as retail, manufacturing, professional, etc. They recruit and coordinate the distribution and collection of campaign materials.

Loaned Executives
During the peak campaign season, United Way calls on its corporate partners to lend their best and brightest employees, Loaned Executives (LEs), to assist United Way staff in the development and implementation of workplace campaigns.

Specifically, LEs lend their expertise and energy to:

·         Help United Way expand solicitation efforts
·         Reach new markets
·         Broaden the base of community giving.

Loaned Executives help keep fundraising costs low by maximizing staff and volunteer efforts. In return, United Way provides a unique training opportunity in the areas of public speaking, team building, leadership, salesmanship and organizational skills. The LE program is an excellent investment for companies, the loaned employee and the community.

Company Campaign Coordinator
A company campaign coordinator provides leadership, direction and motivation for the employees within his/her organization. They help employees understand that their contribution directly affects people in the six-county area. They also ensure that all employees are

• Provided with information, as well as solicitation materials
• Given an opportunity to contribute
• Recognized for their contribution

Allocation Committee Members
Once the money has been raised, it then needs to be carefully distributed and more volunteers help to accomplish this task to ensure that limited charitable dollars are well invested in our communities. Allocation committee members serve on allocation panels and make these difficult decisions, and training is included in their time commitment.
