Volunteers from your company are invited to sign up and participate in the 15th Annual Day of Caring on Thursday, April 17.

The goal of Day of Caring is to mobilize community-minded volunteers and provide them with an opportunity to lend their time, talent, and energy at area health and human service providers. In addition to providing much needed help to these organizations, volunteers will also be able to see how their United Way donations are helping people in our community.

Last year, more than 550 volunteers representing numerous local businesses and organizations participated in a variety of projects ranging from cleaning out flower beds and trimming brush to reading to students.

Please join us for a day of fun with this year's Day of Caring!  For more information, or to participate, contact Sarah Fowler, United Way Day of Caring Coordinator, 479-782-1311, Ext. 201.

Day of Caring information and project registration will be available online around the middle of March at www.unitedwayfortsmith.org

"This site will be updated as volunteers are signed up," noted Fowler. "This will make project selection more convenient for volunteers, specifically those in groups. In addition to projects being submitted by United Way Community Partners, this year we are partnering with the cities of Booneville, Charleston, Ozark and Van Buren."

Trinity Junior High reaches out to other teens through United Way

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 As part of Catholic Schools Week, all of the Catholic schools in the area do something to benefit the community. On Friday, February 1, all Trinity students paid two dollars to wear jeans with their Catholic Schools Week T-shirt. This event was a school-wide project.
Additionally, students were asked to bring in jeans they had outgrown or that their siblings had outgrown for the "Jeans for Teens" driveJeans were collected during Jeans Day and throughout the week. The students raised $327. The jeans were donated to the Girls Shelter, Boys Shelter, Children's Service League and Kids First.
"This project was chosen as a way for the teens of our school to give something back to the teens in the community," said Chandler Doss, principal.
Loving fundraiser for Imagination Library ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kraft/Planters held a Valentine's Day fundraiser by holding a food auction from February 1 - February 7 with the item delivered on the day specified by the winning bidder.
To give everyone in the plant an opportunity to participate, sealed bids were accepted due to the number of shifts worked. Then an e-mail announcement went out on plant distribution as well as posting the information in the main hall.
"We were pleased with the food auction," said Andrea Boyett, Campaign Coordinator. "We had a couple of people who really wanted a particular item and they lost in the bidding war. But, they got with the baker and worked it out so they could also purchase the item for the same price as the highest bidder."
Proceeds from the fundraiser were donated to United Way's early literacy initiative, Ensuring Children Succeed and Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. A bulletin board was decorated with a big heart. As money was raised, "little children with books" were added for every $30 raised which is cost of sponsoring one child in the program for a year.
"As of Valentine's Day, we had raised enough money to sponsor 18 children; and we are hoping to reach our goal of 20," said Andrea.
Included in the auction were heart shaped cookies, chocolate dipped strawberries, pies, cakes and brownie bites.
