Holiday Giving Guide ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Instead of giving conventional gifts this holiday season (does Dad really need another tie?) why not make a donation in his name to a worthy cause? Or maybe your office would like to collect food or toys and doesn't know where to donate them? For the third year, United Way of Fort Smith Area has printed a holiday giving guide. In this guide, you will find the most comprehensive list of ways to help others this holiday season.

The 2007 Holiday Giving Guide makes "giving back" as easy as possible. The activities, which are arranged alphabetically by agency name, show the tremendous need for volunteers and resources in our area. When you find an interesting opportunity that fits your schedule, simply call the agency contact to obtain more information. You should contact them as early as possible in the season because the volunteer activities get filled quickly.

The guide is available at:

  • United Way office, 320 South 18th Street, Fort Smith
  • The 43 non-profit organizations that participated in the guide
  •  United Way website; www.unitedwayfortsmith.org.

Employees (or a team of employees) cook their favorite chili recipe and enter it into a cook-off contest. You can charge teams or employees to enter the contest. Talk to a local hotel representative about donating a weekend stay at their hotel for the winner.

Highlight knowledge of United Way and agencies using game show formats (Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, etc.) Try a "Monopoly" type game board with United Way agencies instead of streets!

Iron Chef

Give your company's gourmets a change to show off. Host a cooking competition and ask participants to bring a crock pot filled with their favorite recipes which will be judged by a panel of judges. Or provide ingredients and make it a microwave or "E-Z Bake Oven" cook-off.

Place a bid for your boss to do your job for a day.

Email Bingo
