Fill the Bus 2020

Welcome To Our Virtual Fill The Bus School Supply Drive
Fill the Bus is a community-wide school supply drive covering four counties in Arkansas and two counties in Oklahoma. This year our event is going virtual! You will not see volunteers out at your local Walmart stores this year, but we are committed to continue providing school supplies for students in need. We need your help to make it happen!
Monetary donations can be made by texting “schoolbus’ to 41444, or on this webpage. You can donate supplies by using the Walmart Registry For Good. With the registry for good the supplies will be shipped to our United Way office. These options allow you to make a contact-free donation while continuing to support our local children as they start back to school.

Walmart Registry for Good

Last year our volunteers collected over 60,000 packages of school supplies. Due to restrictions rising from the COVID-19 pandemic we are not able to collect supplies at each Walmart location. We are offering two options to donate, the Walmart Registry for Good and an online donation option. Through the registry supplies purchased can be shipped to our United Way office and we will distribute them to local school districts as normal.

Make a Monetary Donation

100% of donations made will be used to purchase supplies for children in local school districts. If you choose the Fill the Bus option your donation will go to a general fund to be shared among all school districts. If you want to designate your donation choose the school district in the drop down.

About Fill the Bus

Fill the Bus

Many children look forward to arriving on the first day of school with new notebooks, backpacks and pencil boxes, but it’s a different story for children whose families can’t afford these items. Toward the end of July, United Way of Fort Smith Area asks individuals to help them fill a bus full of supplies to be donated to at-risk children in the six-county area it serves. Not only do the donated supplies help children with their studies, having a new backpack or notebook can really help raise a child’s self-esteem. Feeling good about themselves and having the tools they need to complete their school work helps children get off on the right foot as they start a new school year.
