August 31, 2021 (Fort Smith, AR) United Way of Fort Smith Area would like to announce their inaugural; “We Remember: A 9-11 Commemoration” event sponsored by OG&E. This is a family-friendly, community event intended to honor the victims and heroes of the September 11, 2001 attacks. It will take place on September 11, 2021, from 5:00pm to 8:00pm in Chaffee Crossing’s Historic District.

Shea Foldvary, Resource Development Director for the United Way of Fort Smith Area, said, “We are proud to host an event on the 20th anniversary of 9/11/2001 to honor and commemorate the sacrifices of our veterans, first responders, civilian and military heroes.” Foldvary added, “For our children, 9/11 is not an experience lived but history to learn. We hope this event will help a new generation understand the loss and never to forget those who made the ultimate sacrifice that day.”

People of all ages are encouraged to attend the 9-11 Commemoration as it is designed to provide the community an opportunity to join together in the remembrance of the attacks that took place 20 years ago. Community, state, and federal resources will be on-site to help assist veterans, currently serving Military personnel, and military-connected families. There will be activities for children as well as food vendors and a 5k/9.11k Run of Remembrance taking place at 6:00 pm. Opening ceremonies will begin promptly at 5:00 pm.
